Governor Fails to Prevent $350 Million in Consumer Fraud

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger ended the 2008 legislative session on September 30th with a casual, slight of hand veto of Assembly Bill 2825 (Carter), a bill designed to protect California motorists from auto body repair fraud. As the nation's financial crisis worsens, the Governor has now ensured that California residents will be left holding the bag for another ongoing $350 million consumer rip-off. The measure was supported by leading consumer groups including the Center for Auto Safety, Consumer Action and Consumers Union.
