With Democrats Barack Obama and Joe Biden appearing headed toward victory in the race for President and Vice President, and other results signaling stronger support for sensible gun laws in the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House as well as the White House, the political environment for progress on gun violence prevention appears much stronger tonight than in years. The results also represent a significant setback for the National Rifle Association, which spent more than $10 million (after initially promising to spend $40 million) saying that Senator Obama would be "the most anti-gun President in American history."
