The National Museum of Women in the Arts presents the Washington showing of Mary Cassatt: Friends and Family, November 21, 2008-January 25, 2009, an exhibition tracing the theme of friendship in the works of one of the most influential woman artists of the 19th century.

"Mary Cassatt challenged contemporary notions about what art -- and artists -- should be," stated NMWA Director Susan Fisher Sterling. "Her artistic innovation and passion for depicting the everyday lives of women around her provided a supreme example for future women artists."
