Reductions in total body fat decrease humoral immunity

A study in hamsters reveals that total body fat loss leads to impaired immunity, Dr. Gregory Demas and colleagues at Indiana University reported their findings in the Proceedings of the Royal Society of London, Series B. Limited energy availability, reflected as reduced body fat, can impair immune function and increase disease susceptibility, noted the authors.
