Scientists to start bovine genome project

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, on March 4, 2003, gave its provisional go-ahead to the Cow Genome Project, a landmark sequencing effort expected to generate widespread benefits for biology and agriculture. In a declaration of intent, the NHGRI and the state of Texas have indicated their plan to support the efforts of the Baylor College of Medicine and Texas A&M University to sequence the bovine genome.
