"Familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (FHLH) is a genetic disorder caused by defective lymphocyte cytotoxicity, resulting in impaired lymphocyte homeostasis and macrophage infiltration of solid tissues and bone marrow, with extensive hemophagocytosis. It is invariably fatal unless treated by allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT)," scientists in France report.
