New findings in the area of drug resistance detailed

Data on drug resistance are outlined in reports from the United Kingdom, Netherlands and Brazil.

Study 1: A study from England has reported on interactions of mefloquine with multidrug resistance proteins (MRPs) present in human red cell membranes.

"Human erythrocyte membranes express the multidrug resistance-associated proteins, MRPI, MRP4 and 5, that collectively can efflux oxidized glutathione, glutathione conjugates and cyclic nucleotides. It is already known that the quinoline derivative, MK-571, is a potent inhibitor of MRP-mediated transport.
