Induced apoptosis studied, kinase involvement and suppression defined

A recently published study from Japan has documented the involvement of Ras/extracellular signal-regulated kinase, but not protein kinase B (Akt) pathway in risedronate-induced apoptosis of U937 cells and its suppression by cytochalasin B.

"Although risedronate, a nitrogen containing bisphosphonate (BPs), strongly inhibits bone resorption by enhanced apoptosis of osteoclasts, its mechanism remained unclear," wrote H. Fujita and colleagues, Kurashiki Medical Center.
