Apical ventricular pacing can cause ventricular dyssynchrony

Apical ventricular pacing can cause ventricular dyssynchrony in congenital heart block (CHB) patients.

In patients with CHB, "dual-chamber pacing restores physiological heart rate and atrio-ventricular synchronization," cardiologists in France explained. "However, patients with narrow QRS junctional escape rhythm may be deleteriously affected by long-term, permanent apical ventricular pacing."

In their study, J.B. Thambo and coauthors working at the Hopital Cardiologique du Haut-Leveque in Pessac "assessed the impact of apical ventricular pacing on echocardiographic ventricular dyssynchrony and hemodynamic parameters."
