American Airlines is pleased Viagra suit dismissed

American Airlines said it is "very pleased" that a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit claiming American's healthcare plans discriminated against women by allegedly covering Viagra for men but denying coverage for some women's health procedures.

"The lawsuit was frivolous, and we're pleased that the judge dismissed it," said AMR general counsel Anne McNamara of U.S. District Judge John McBryde's order to dismiss the case. "As we have said all along, our plans provide medical benefits to men and women equally."

The lawsuit, brought by Los Angeles lawyer Gloria Allred, was filed in December in Los Angeles and transferred to Fort Worth. Allred claimed...
