Survey: Medicare gets higher marks from enrollees than private insurance

Elderly Medicare beneficiaries are 2.7 times more likely than enrollees in employer-sponsored plans are to rate their health insurance as excellent and one-third as likely to say they couldn't get health care because of cost, according to a survey published on the Health Affairs web site.

The findings of better satisfaction, access, and security experienced by Medicare beneficiaries mean that would-be Medicare reformers need to be cautious if they want to make the program more like the private sector, according to the Commonwealth Fund's survey.
