Rising healthcare costs mark teacher talks

The rising cost of health insurance has become a key issue in the latest round of contract talks between Wisconsin school districts and their teachers.

Many districts have started negotiating agreements with their teachers covering the 2003-04 and 2004-05 school years, just months after some settled their 2001-03 contracts.

District officials say they've been discussing ways to cut the rising cost of health insurance plans, which provide generous coverage but require little or no contributions from teachers.
