Persistence and compliance may decrease diabetes healthcare costs, study shows

PharMetrics Inc. announced that in a retrospective study of more than 46,000 type 2 diabetics treated with one or more oral anti-diabetic agents during a 2-year period, overall annual healthcare costs decreased by approximately 20% for those patients with the highest degree of persistence (total length of time on therapy) and compliance (level of adherence to prescribed dosing and medication schedules).

The study leveraged data from PharMetrics' proprietary Anonymous Patient-Centric Database, the largest and most complete database containing de-identified pharmaceutical and medical records of its kind. This health insurance claims database captures the entire continuum...
