Outcome improvement program designed to lower LDL cholesterol levels

Cigna Pharmacy Management (CPM) recently announced the results of its year-long program designed to help physicians lower the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels of Cigna HealthCare members who have high cholesterol.

According to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, a 1% reduction in LDL cholesterol levels reduces the risk of heart attack or death by 1% on average.

Within 6 months of the start of the CPM cholesterol program, 75% of the program participants reduced their LDL cholesterol levels and 41% met their target cholesterol levels. In addition, participants who met their LDL target levels reduced their 10-year risk of a heart...
