Montana Independent Pharmacists Urge Sen. Max Baucus to Introduce Prompt Payment Legislation

More than 100 community pharmacists in Montana have signed and sent a letter to Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) urging him to introduce revenue-neutral improvements to Medicare Part D prompt pay procedures that ensure ongoing patient access to the state's 158 independent community pharmacies. In many smaller communities, these pharmacies are the primary health care resource.

In the letter, the pharmacists ask Chairman Baucus to embrace two legislative solutions to protect the financial viability of their businesses. These requests include better definitions and payment guidelines for clean claims and a prohibition of the confusing practice of cobranding on...
