Chinese delegation visits Delaware to discuss avian influenza

Delaware officials met March 16, 2004, with a delegation from the Chinese embassy to explain what the state has done to control an avian flu outbreak and request that China lift an import ban on American poultry as soon as possible.

Governor Ruth Ann Minner said no agreement to lift the ban was reached, but that state officials will establish a dialogue with Chinese officials and hope to convince them that Delaware poultry is safe.

"We're going to continue to talk," Minner said.
