Surgical association comments on Medicare ASC list proposed changes

In comments submitted to the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Federated Ambulatory Surgery Association (FASA) said that if proposed changes to Medicare's ASC list are made, it will restrict Medicare beneficiaries' access to safe, affordable surgical services.

FASA said the changes would decrease beneficiaries' choice of where to have surgery, increase out-of-pocket expenses, and, in many cases, cause delays in access to care.

The ASC list identifies the procedures that Medicare will pay ASCs for providing. According to FASA, physicians, together with their patients, are best at determining the best site for a procedure, not...
