Smith & Nephew, Medtronic, announce computer-assisted surgery and open platform strategy

Smith & Nephew (SNN) has announced an agreement with Medtronic Surgical Navigation Technologies to jointly develop orthopedic computer assisted surgery (CAS) software and instrumentation for an open platform environment.

The announcement of an open platform strategy signals Smith & Nephew's commitment to promoting broad surgeon adoption of CAS tools in orthopedics as a way to bring truly minimally invasive and more accurate knee, hip, and trauma applications to patient communities.
