"Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs), also termed prion diseases, are fatal neurodegenerative conditions that affect both humans and animals," scientists in the United States explained. "The transmissibility and fatal nature of TSEs necessitate their rapid and accurate diagnosis."
