23Na MRI useful for monitoring infarct healing

23NA magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is suitable for use in monitoring the healing process after acute myocardial infarction (MI).

"Although 23Na MRI has been shown to delineate" acute MI, "the time course of in vivo 23Na MRI during infarct healing remains unknown," cardiologists in the United States explained.

In a study conducted by H.B. Hillenbrand and coauthors at Johns Hopkins University Hospital, "23Na MRI was combined with contrast-enhanced (CE) 1H MRI to noninvasively characterize infarct healing in vivo."
