OCT "can obtain high-resolution, cross sectional microscopic images of tissue, potentially enabling optical biopsy to substitute for conventional excisional biopsy," according to surgeons in Japan, who evaluated "the capability of OCT to image the microstructure of normal and abnormal bronchial tissue."
