Gastric electrical stimulation treats lower esophageal sphincter pressure in dog model

Gastric electrical stimulation (GES) with parameters for morbid obesity improves lower esophageal sphincter (LES) pressure in dog model.

"Treatment of obese patients with the implantable gastric stimulator (IGS) was reported to improve reflux symptoms, independent of weight loss. We evaluated the effect of gastric electrical stimulation (GES) on lower esophageal sphincter (LES) pressure in conscious dogs," scientists in the United States report.

J.H. Xing and colleagues at the University of Texas in Galveston studied 8 dog, testing "GES with three sets of parameters randomly applied via a pair of electrodes implanted in the fundus on separate days....
