Women at greatest risk of HIV feel powerless to protect themselves, health report says

A new report by the not-for-profit National Women's Health Resource Center (NWHRC) finds that, although women account for nearly half of all AIDS cases worldwide, those at greatest risk still do not feel empowered to protect themselves against the deadly virus.

According to "Women & HIV," the latest issue of the National Women's Health Report, U.S. women often are powerless to protect themselves. Some don't insist that their partners wear condoms during intercourse, while others don't take the antiviral medication known to dramatically increase survival rates.
