Haemonetics' cardioPAT wins medical design innovation award

Haemonetics Corp. announced that its cardioPAT cardiovascular perioperative autotransfusion system has received the 2006 Nixon Peabody/Smith & Nephew Medical Device Innovation Award. The award, given by the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council, recognizes novel medical technologies that have demonstrated a positive outcome in the healthcare setting, according to the company. The cardioPAT system salvages blood lost during cardiovascular surgery procedures so the blood can be transfused back to the patient.
