2012 FEB 5 -- According to the authors of recent research from Leiden, Netherlands, "Much has been published on the role of mechanical bowel preparation (MBP) in open colorectal resection; however, the current study shows little evidence on the use of MBP prior to laparoscopic colorectal resections. In contrast to open procedures, MBP could influence the diameter of the bowel and thus the exposure of the surgical field in laparoscopy."
