Sixty-four slice computed tomography scanner for heart examinations introduced

Siemens Medical Solutions has introduced the SOMATOM Sensation Cardiac 64, the first 64-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner optimized for cardiac, thoracic and vascular imaging.

With a standard gantry rotation speed of 0.33 seconds, the scanner routinely achieves a temporal resolution up to 83 milliseconds, which facilitates scanning of patients even with higher heart rates, virtually freezing the heart's motion. The technology also will become available as an option for cardiac and advanced body CT applications on new scanner.
