Volumetric CT device facilitates bone density assessment

A novel computed tomography system enables safe and accurate assessment of jaw bone density prior to dental implant surgery.

In a recent study from California, "bone density was evaluated in designated implant sites" using a newly developed "volumetric computerized tomographic device."

"Those measurements were then compared with traditional quantitative computerized axial tomography and subjective bone density evaluation," explained P. Aranyarachkul and coauthors at Loma Linda University. "Sixty-three potential sites for implant placement in jaws from nine human cadavers were used."
