Endoscopic disconnection treats intractable hypothalamic hamartoma seizures

Endoscopic disconnection is a suitable treatment for refractory hypothalamic hamartoma (HH)-related epilepsy.

Although intractable HH-related seizures "can be controlled by microsurgical resection of the lesion, excision of deep-seated lesions is often associated with morbidity and mortality," neurosurgeons in South Korea explained.

"Endoscopic disconnection is less invasive and seems to be well suited for this indication," noted J.U. Choi and colleagues at Yonsei University. In their study, the collaborators evaluated "the role of endoscopic-assisted surgery in the management of HH-induced seizures."
