Vaccinating STD Patients A Help Against Hepatitis B

The routine vaccination of patients attending sexually transmitted disease clinics could significantly impact hepatitis B incidence in this population, but behavior would remain critical, according to a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report.

A safe and effective vaccine against hepatitis B was introduced in 1981 but despite this, infection rates changed little in the following years. Among heterosexuals and intravenous drug users, the incidence of hepatitis B increased.
