Reasons for Remain Elusive, Military Study Affirms

As other studies of premature births have found, a recent review of the phenomenon among women in the United States military also found that most of the causes of preterm delivery are unknown.

To examine whether risk factors differed among subgroups of preterm (<37 weeks or gestation) deliveries, CDC's Melissa M. Adams and colleagues studied a cohort of 1,825 enlisted servicewomen who delivered from 1987 through 1990 at four U.S. Army medical centers.
