Outbreak in Nicaragua Is Identified as Rare Form of Leptospirosis

In Nicaragua, the 16 deaths caused by the recent outbreak of disease are now attributed to an unusual form of Leptospirosis, not dengue fever, as originally believed.

"It was kind of an international detective hunt to find out what was killing these people, and I think they found it remarkably quickly," Daniel Epstein, information officer, Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) told Blood Weekly.
