According to an abstract presented by the authors to the 1st International Conference on Therapies for Viral Hepatitis, held December 11-15, 1995, in Kauai, Hawaii, "Background: A number of hepatitis C virus (HCV) strains from different geographic areas have been isolated and subject to genomic sequence analysis. As the number of HCV isolates analyzed increases, the heterogeneity of HCV genotypes has become apparent. Objectives: Few HCV sequence data are available from the Former Soviet Union.
