Officials Meet To Fine-Tune Polio Vaccinations

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) immunization committee in October 1995 endorsed a switch from the current method, which exclusively uses the oral polio vaccine for four million American children a year, to an injected inactivated polio virus plus the oral vaccine.
An Oakton, Virginia, man who favors the change, spoke briefly to the committee about his five-year-old son, who contracted polio from the oral vaccine as an infant after being born with an initially undiagnosed immune deficiency.
