According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 3rd Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, held January 28 - February 1, 1996, in Washington, DC, "To determine risk factors for recent HIV seroconversion, we conducted a nested case-control study among persons identified from an ongoing prospective study of HIV incidence in STD clinics in 5 U.S. cities. Patients testing HIV positive between 1993 and 1995 after a documented HIV negative test within the previous 24 months were defined as cases.
