Computerized TB Tracking System Underway in Texas

A computerized system for tracking migrant and binational tuberculosis cases along the Texas/Mexico border allows TB patients to keep their treatment histories on a credit card-sized document.

The Binational and Migrant TB Referral and Tracking Project (TB-Net), which specifically targets the Texas-Mexican border area, was outlined in the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's TB Notes for the winter of 1996.

The pilot tracking system involves a computerized registry, located in El Paso, and a portable record, enabling healthcare workers to maintain continuity of care for TB cases and suspected cases originating in Texas or expected to...
