TB Rates Continue To Decline

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officials reported that 1995 was the third consecutive year in which the number of new cases of tuberculosis declined in the U.S. Between 1992 and 1995, the annual number of new cases of TB decreased by 14.5 percent (MMWR 1996 45:365-370).

TB rates among U.S.-born persons declined for all age groups, with the largest decline reported among persons between the ages of 25 and 44 years. In contrast, TB rates among foreign-born persons increased from 31.9 percent in 1994 to 35.7 percent in 1995.
