Well Water May Pose Hepatitis A Virus Risk

Drinking unpurified or untreated water from a shallow well may lead to hepatitis A virus infection, according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The CDC report was one of several dealing with hepatitis transmission delivered at the 96th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology, held May 19-23, 1996 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

CDC researcher Theresa Cromeans and colleagues conducted an investigation of a common source outbreak of hepatitis A that occurred in Quebec, Canada.
