According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 96th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology, held May 19-23, 1996, in New Orleans, Louisiana, "Two rabies epizootics in Southern and West Central Texas are caused by antigenically indistinguishable strains of rabies (MD and TX, respectively). A panel of monoclonal antibodies (mabs) are able to differentiate between other strains but gives an identical reaction pattern for these two strains.
