"Molecular Epidemiology of Texas Fox (TF) and Urban Mexican Dog (MD or TX coyote) Rabies by RT-PCR Specific Primers."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 96th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology, held May 19-23, 1996, in New Orleans, Louisiana, "Two rabies epizootics in Southern and West Central Texas are caused by antigenically indistinguishable strains of rabies (MD and TX, respectively). A panel of monoclonal antibodies (mabs) are able to differentiate between other strains but gives an identical reaction pattern for these two strains. Specific primers complementary to either the TF or MD nucleoprotein sequence under stringent annealing conditions will differentiate between TFMD strains by creating a 220 bp fragment only with the type specific primer.
