During 1995, 11,603 cases of Lyme disease were reported to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, Georgia, by 43 states and the District of Columbia, according to the CDC ("Lyme Disease - United States, 1995," MMWR, June 14, 1996;45(23):481-484). In 1994, 13,043 cases were reported.
The overall incidence for 1995 was 4.4 per 100,000 population.
As in previous years, the northeastern, north-central and mid-Atlantic regions reported the highest numbers of cases of Lyme disease (LD).
