PAHO has been helping Haiti's Ministry of Health investigate an epidemic of kidney failure that has killed at least 30 Haitian children and poisoned 40 others, apparently caused by contaminated liquid acetaminophen manufactured by a local pharmaceutical company. "The tragedy of these children's deaths points up the need for increased quality control and good manufacturing practices to prevent this type of thing from happening again," said Dr. Stephen Corber, PAHO.
