CDC Data Presented on Youth and HIV/AIDS Risk

Researchers from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) presented findings that document the continued need for HIV prevention messages that are targeted to reflect the diverse experiences of young people, including messages to delay sexual intercourse.

The data was presented at the 11th International Conference on AIDS, held in Vancouver, British Columbia, July 7-12, 1996. Researchers found that many sexually active young women may be at increased risk for HIV infection through sex with older men.
