HIV Related Illness: A Continuing Public Health Problem

In 1992, as many as 900,000 Americans were infected with HIV, according to Dr. John M. Karon and colleagues, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

They estimated that 0.3 percent, or one in every 300, Americans are HIV positive. The results of their study appeared in the July 10, 1996, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA 1996;276:126-131).
