According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 11th International Conference on AIDS, held July 7-12, 1996, in Vancouver, British Columbia, "Background: Rapid, on-site HIV tests, where clients are counseled and receive their results at the initial clinic visit, have the potential to improve the delivery of services and increase the number of clients who learn their serostatus in Uganda and other developing countries. The Capillus HIV-1/HIV-2 (Cambridge Diagnostics) is a visually read, direct latex agglutination assay, intended as a screening test where sophisticated equipment is unavailable, but has had limited evaluation under field conditions in non-medical settings...
