In the August 1996 issue of Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, investigators from the Division of Tuberculosis Elimination of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that from 1988 through 1992, TB cases among children rose 51 percent, from 1,133 to 1,708 cases (Pediatr Infect Dis J 1996;15:697-704). The CDC also reported that from 1992 to 1994, cases among adults declined by approximately 10 percent, but cases among children showed only a 2 percent decrease.
