"Prior Antimicrobials in HIV Patients with Staphylococcus aureus Bacteremia."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 36th Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, held September 15-18, 1996, in New Orleans, Louisiana, "Some agents used for prophylaxis or treatment of opportunistic mycobacterial, fungal, or parasitic infections also have activity against common bacteria which are increasingly recognized as important causes of infection complicating HIV disease. A nested case-control study was performed in an HIV clinic cohort (about 1900 patients), comparing 48 patients with Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia against 188 controls for prior use of rifabutin, rifampin, dapsone, quinolones, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole,...
