According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 1996 meeting of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc., held June 2-5, 1996, "Paralleling the resurgence of tuberculosis (TB) in the United States, the reported number of persons with TB in Texas increased by 33% during 1985 to 1992, the third largest rise among all the states. Because of this increase, we surveyed hospitals in Texas to determine their degree of compliance with recommendations in the 1990 CDC TB guidelines.
