San Francisco Hospital Wants To Test "Morning After" Treatment

Spurred by the success of "morning after" drugs to block pregnancy, researchers at San Francisco General Hospital, California, have launched a study to determine if HIV can be prevented after unprotected sex.

Within two months, the hospital hopes to win clearances and federal grant money to conduct a trial of the therapy that includes anti-viral drugs AZT and 3TC. The highly effective protease inhibitors, which came into widespread usage in the past year, are not to be included in the study at first.
