Quick Response by Officials Contains HAV Outbreak

Michigan Health officials continue to address the recent outbreak of hepatitis A and its link to frozen strawberries distributed through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) school lunch program.

"We have worked aggressively with local health departments and the [U.S.] Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in identifying the source of hepatitis A in our state. The initiative of the Calhoun County Health Department in finding the link to frozen strawberries has been outstanding," said James K. Haveman, Jr., Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH).
