Guatemala Halts Raspberry Exports

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified 19 clusters of cases of cyclosporiasis from eight states (California, Florida, Maryland, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, and Texas) and one Canadian province (Ontario).

Fresh raspberries were served at 17 of 19 events associated with these outbreaks. Raspberries were the only food in common to the 17 events which included receptions, banquets, or meals in restaurants, reported the CDC (MMWR June 13, 1997; vol. 46/no. 23).
