"Risk Factors for Childhood Kaposi's Sarcoma in Uganda: A Case-Control Study."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 1st National AIDS Malignancy Conference, held April 28-30, 1997, in Bethesda, Maryland, "Background: While Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) is extremely rare among children in the developed countries and was rare in the developing countries prior to the AIDS epidemic, the rate of KS in Ugandan children has risen dramatically over the past three decades. Age-standardized rates for boys aged 0-14 years were 0.25 between 1964-1968 and 10.1 between 1992-1993, a 40-fold increase.
